Horace Kephart was an American author and outdoorsman famous for his book “Camping and Woodcraft”. This knife is a faithful reproduction of the knife he describes for general outdoor tasks. It finds a nice balance between a small pocket knife and a larger knife. It is very sturdy and is suited to outdoor carving and cutting tasks. When making these knives I put a rounder curve where your index finger grips the blade for comfort and stability. I also slightly tapered the tang to reduce weight.
Blade Thickness: 1/8th inch
Blade Length: 5 Inches
Grind: Flat with partial false edge on spine.
Overall Length: 8 & ¾ Inches
Finish: Hand polished satin finish
Steel: The blade is 52100, a time tested high carbon steel originally designed for bearings.
Handle: Burgandy Micarta with white and red G10 liners.
It comes with a kydex sheath and a belt hanger made to accommodate a 1.5 inch belt. The belt hanger is held in place with Chicago screws so if you want to attach a pocket clip or other hardware it can easily be modified. I find the belt hanger to be comfortable on the left or right side, and it allows the sheath to bend out of the way if you squat or kneel down while securely retaining the knife.
This is a great knife for your next outdoor adventure!
